The American Red Cross Mission Statement The American Red Cross, a humanitarian organization led by volunteers and guided by its Congressional Charter and the Fundamental Principles of the International Red Cross Movement, will provide relief to victims of disasters and help people prevent, prepare for, and respond to emergencies.
Response Services To volunteer... The heart of the Red Cross mission is disaster relief. Our local volunteer Emergency Response Team(ERT)focuses on supporting our community by extending immediate emergency disaster related assistance. When a disaster threatens or strikes, the Red Cross provides shelter, food, health and mental health services to address basic human needs. In addition to these services, Red Cross provides the community with disaster education to help prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies.
Preparedness Services To volunteer... For more than a century, the American Red Cross has been saving lives with health and safety education programs ranging from first aid, CPR and AED to swimming, First Aid Station Teams, and life guarding. HIV/AIDS education and care giving programs like Babysitter’s Training help people live safer and healthier lives.
Community Activities To volunteer... In addition, the Southwest Florida Chapter serves our community by providing programs within skilled nursing and retirement facilities. Volunteers bring messages of good health and cheer with an exercise program known as TOUCH. Also, a very dedicated group of Red Cross volunteers meet weekly to sew, crochet and knit afghans, lap robes, wheelchair bags and beautiful children’s clothing distributed during the year to mature adults and children in need throughout our community.
Armed Forces American Red Cross Emergency Services are available to all members of the armed services, and to their families. Both active duty and community-based military can count on the Red Cross to provide emergency communications, emergency financial assistance and counseling.
